Blue Greenie is New York's first Remake Shop. In fact, it's the only one we've found anywhere that's also a working studio — where donated clothing and fabric get a second life, and local artists get paid work. We also offer custom upcycling, so people can have their own clothing reimagined.

So many people have asked me about opening their own Remake Shop that I decided to put all the info in one place. Think of this page as a "Remake Shop Recipe" that you can alter to fit your own ingredients.

If you're an artist, a shop owner, or just someone with an empty storefront and a similar itch, this is what you need to know.

If a customer opts in and leaves an email, we tag the donation with a QR code. We use cardboard bins with a plastic card holder, and designers scan the QR code from any bin they take fabric from to use in a product.

When the product is finished and goes on the Blue Greenie website, we add the URL to the product, and every customer whose materials were used gets an email with a link to the finished piece.

We recommend working with a partner who can sustainably handle overflow. We partner with Wearable Collections. Another option is to only accept certain materials.
